FAC continues unabated in fossil and combined cycle/HRSG plants worldwide. No new areas have appeared but the same suite of locations has been predominant for the last 10 years. In fossil plants there is probably a predominance of two-phase FAC with particular emphasis in feedwater heater drains and emergency drains. In combined cycle/HRSG plants the two-phase variant also appears to continue in locations where steaming takes place in economizer sections and where two-phase mixtures are expected near the outlet sections of low and intermediate pressure evaporator circuits. In both plants, an emphasis has been placed on optimizing the cycle chemistry. Overall although FAC is well understood it remains an enigma: a number of specific items will be discussed to emphasis the inability to identify specific locations of damage.
