ABSTRACT :

Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) continues to be a problem in fossil-fired power plants. Recent FAC failures have precipitated a desire for a more powerful and thorough predictive tool. CHECUP®, EPRI's fossil-based predictive model lacks the ability to model two-phase FAC or provide an inspection database . CHECWORKSTM, EPRI's nuclear-based modeling tool, addresses the two-phase issue but is not equipped to address fossil-specific operating conditions such as water chemistry and mixed-metallurgy feedwater system. In response, EPRI has moved to modify its existing FAC predictive code set for fossil plant use. This presentation will discuss the motivation, challenges, objectives, and path forward in producing a fossil-specific FAC code.
