The first FAC Conference "FAC2008" in March 2008 hosted over 130 delegates representing 20 countries from various organizations : engineering companies, universities, research centers, consultants, maintenance and NDE companies, operators from nuclear and fuel fired power plants as well as urban heating companies.
Representatives from several Safety Organizations like Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission CNSC, Spanish “Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear” CSN and French “Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire” ASN and “Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire” IRSN also attended the conference.
The conference lasted three days with 36 high quality presentations on various interesting topics related to FAC :
Modeling of FAC, R&D and test loop results, FAC prediction methods, operating experience feedback, steam-water circuit chemistry, piping maintenance, chromium measurements, FAC at low temperature and entrance effect, Oxygen dosing experience and various Non-Destructive Examination methods and the consequences of power increase to FAC.
Through all these subjects , the conference achieved its goal to gather specialists to share their experience and know-how on FAC in order to contribute to minimize the risk of pipe rupture and improve the quality and security of steam-water piping.
We would like to warmly thank all attendees, speakers and exhibitors for making the conference a memorable experience.
Many thanks also goes to the Exhibitors ECA, GE Inspection Technologies, Applus RTD who highly contributed to the success of the conference and provided us a great overview of their latest Non-Destructive Testing and inspection equipments.

Even if FAC is still a major issue for nuclear power plants, some events remind us that fossil-fired plants and urban heating networks are also subject to FAC phenomenon. That's why we really hope a increase from this side for the next meeting !
