Computed Radiography (CR) has been used at US nuclear power plants for Flow Accelerated Corrosion examination for over nine years now. With advancements in technology, ASME codification of phosphor plate radiography, computed radiography applications are expanding into other areas including use for ASME Section III weld examinations, and development for in-service examinations for service induced flaws.

This paper will discuss the usage of phosphor plate radiography for Flow Accelerated Corrosion applications at Florida Power & Light (FPL) power plants. Currently at FPL CR is the preferred method over UT for measurement of pipe wall thickness for piping size up to 8” schedule 40. It will highlight the applications it is used for, discuss the benefits, and provide comparisons to conventional radiography techniques for the same applications.

Recent use of phosphor plate radiography for ASME Section III applications will also be discussed. Discussion about regulatory acceptance, technique development and qualification, and application benefits will be addressed.

With many US nuclear facilities looking to extend the operating life, use of computed radiography for determining the condition of components and structures not previously examinable is needed. This paper will discuss various applications and development projects undertaken in the areas of the use of computed radiography for service induced flaws, potential cast material examinations, and other applications.
