To review the relations between flow behavior and local wall thinning caused by flow- accelerated corrosion, experiments, numerical analyses, and ultrasonic tests for the lower body of a main feedwater isolation valve, the downstream pipe of an orifice, and the shell of a feedwater heater were performed. The experimental results in terms of static pressure obtained for the downscaled facilities were compared with those of three-dimensional (3D) numerical analyses using the FLUENT code. Based on the 3D analytical results that agreed well with the experimental results, the numerical analyses after magnifying the experimental verification model with the actual size were reperformed, and the turbulence parameters were compared with the measured wall thickness. The flow going again toward wall after separated in wall due to geometrical configuration or colliding with wall directly at an an! gle of some degree was analogous to the configuration of local wall thinning. These results well match those of the previous studies, where locations colliding vertically against components undergo severe wall thinning.
