ABSTRACTS :

       The pressure equipments departments, were created in french nuclear power and fossil plants to improve the safety of the operators and the installations and to preserve the environment. They hold the responsability of the survey and the inspections of the pressure equipments (pipes and vessels) subject to the 15th march 2000 ministerial order.

        Among the degradations that can occur on these equipments the FAC must be particulary watched because of the gravity of the failure it can cause. FAC damage is not restricted to piping and piping components, it can occur on any components in the stream: LP and HP feedwater heaters, Desaerator, MSR, etc., which are not taken in account in predictive softwares such as BRT-CICEROTM.

       The goal of this paper is to present the FAC control strategies, used by the pressure equipments departments to control FAC on the pressure vessels of NPP and Fossil plants:

  1. Criticity study of FAC degradation on specific parts of the pressure vessels;
  2. Determination of the inspections periodicity;
  3. Type of controls performed on the pressure vessels;
  4. Actions taken by the pressure equipments departments when FAC is detected.

This paper includes some examples about pressure vessels from Chinon and Cordemais .
