About FAC2008 Abstracts - March 2008

Speaker : Michel DE SMET
Profession : Senior Engineer

Company : TRACTEBEL ENGINEERING
Department : Nuclear
Country : Belgium

Topic : FAC prediction methods

Sector : Nuclear and Fossil fired

ABSTRACT :

The follow-up of FAC in the Belgian nuclear power plants started very soon after the Surry-accident in 1986 and a less severe accident in Doel in 1987. Since 1999, Electrabel/Tractebel uses EPRI's FAC-software Checworks for managing the follow-up of FAC.

Since 2004, the year of the Mihama-accident, the team in charge of the follow-up of FAC has been completely renewed in a few years time. Following the reorganisation and the Mihama-accident, the FAC follow-up activities are being reviewed and of the important issues is the way in which predictive FAC-software may help us focussing the inspections on the most critical locations.

The presentation aims at sharing recent experiences concerning the use of FAC-software gained through internal and external assessments, through contacts with software vendors and through actual experience. Applications in nuclear as well as fossil fuel fired plants will be discussed.
