Flow-Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) affecting carbon steel components has been studies for many years at EDF R&D thanks to the CIROCO loop. This presentation will provide a detailed description of the loop and its instrumentation. The FAC rate measurement, using the Thin Layer Activation method with 56Co as a radionuclide surface marker, will also be described. Finally, a the study of the impact of the nature of the chemical agent, pH and temperature on FAC will be presented and discussed. As expected, the results show that the nature of the chemical agent (ammonia, morpholine or ethanolamine) does not modify the FAC rate, the influencing chemical variable being the at-temperature pH in one-phase flow conditions. These results also confirm that the FAC rate is maximum around 150°C.
